Los Altos Stage Company invites you to audition for the first show of our 2017-2018 Season, Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, directed by Jeffrey Lo.
All roles are open in this masterpiece of American theater. Jeffrey Lo (Dead Man’s Cellphone, Yellow Face) will be looking at this classic through a modern lens, demonstrating that the type of hysteria running rampant during the McCarthy era is alive and well (in a different form) in 21st Century America.
Performance dates: Wednesday through Sunday, September 7th-October 1st. Wednesday-Saturday performances start at 8pm. Sundays start at 3pm.
Audition date: Thursday, April 13th from 6:30pm-10pm.
Where: Hillview Community Center, Room 15, Los Altos CA, 94022
Callbacks: Saturday, April 15th from 11am-3pm and Sunday, April 16th from 10am-1pm in Hillview Community Center Room 15.
Rehearsals: Weekly, Sunday through Thursday, from 12pm-6pm (Sundays) and 7pm-10pm (Monday-Thursday). Full rehearsal schedule begins July 24th. Additional rehearsals on May 29th, June 5th, August 11th, and August 12th.
Audition requirements: Please prepare 2 monologues from classic American plays, no more than 4 minutes total. Actors invited to callbacks will be given readings from the script.

For this production, LASC is interested in seeing actors of all ethnicities, backgrounds, and gender identities for all roles. Actors may be cast as more than one character
Reverend Parris: Reverend of the town of Salem who becomes one of the leaders of the witch trials. Father of the “afflicted” Betty Parris.
Betty Parris: Reverend Parris’ young daughter and one of the “afflicted” girls.
Tituba: Reverend Parris’ slave from Barbados who is initially accused of bewitching the “afflicted” girls.
Abigail Williams: Young woman who had a secret affair with John Proctor. Begins the accusations of witchcraft to explain away the behavior of the girls.
Susanna Walcott: One of the “afflicted” girls who accuse townspeople of witchcraft.
Ann Putnam and Thomas Putnam: A wealthy married couple with many personal grievances who become early believers in the idea of witchcraft afflicting Salem.
Mercy Lewis: The Putnam’s servant girl and one of the “afflicted”. Sly and merciless.
Mary Warren: The Proctor’s servant girl and one of the “afflicted”. The most conflicted of the girls about what they are perpetrating.
John Proctor: A farmer on the outskirts of Salem who had an affair with Abigail Williams. Has a strong dislike of Parris and fights against the accusations of the girls.
Rebecca Nurse: Elderly midwife of Salem who is accused of witchcraft for the babies of Salem that have died in childbirth.
Giles Corey: Older member of the Salem community whose wife is accused of witchcraft.
Reverend John Hale: Reverend from the nearby town of Beverley. Has deep misgivings about the witch trials but becomes caught up in “following orders.”
Elizabeth Proctor: John Proctor’s wife and object of Abigail’s jealousy. One of the accused.
Francis Nurse: Husband of Rebecca.
Ezekiel Cheever: Court-ordered constable assigned to arrest those accused of witchcraft. Totally obedient to the orders given him.
Marshal Herrick: Marshal and keeper of the keys in the Salem jail. Has greater sympathy than Cheever, but also becomes caught up in following the orders of the court.
Judge Hathorne: The judge presiding over the witch trials alongside Danforth.
Deputy Governor Danforth: Overseer of the witch trials. Thinks he is fair-minded, but believes he is guided by God, therefore no one will be punished by the court unjustly.
Sarah Good: Mentally unstable and homeless member of the Salem community. An easy target for the accusation of witchcraft.
Hopkins: One of the Salem jailers.
All performers in the production will receive a stipend of $450 (flat) for the run of the show. **Sorry, at this point we are unable to work with equity performers.
