Los Altos Stage Company is holding open auditions for the final show of our 2017-2018 season, Pippin.

All roles are open in this beloved classic of American musical theatre, written by Roger O. Hirson and Stephen Schwartz. Los Altos Stage Company’s production of Pippin is directed by Virginia Drake (Man of La Mancha, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) with Music Direction by Katie Coleman and Choreography by Brett Blankenship.

Performance dates: Wednesday through Sunday, May 24th-June 24th. Wednesday-Saturday performances start at 8pm. Sundays start at 3pm.

Audition date: Monday, November 13th from 6:30pm-9:30pm.

Where: Hillview Community Center, Room 15, Los Altos CA, 94022

Callbacks: Sunday, November 19th from 11am-3pm. in Hillview Community Center Room 15.

Rehearsals: Weekly, Monday through Thursday, from 7pm-10pm (Monday-Thursday). Weekend rehearsals TBD based on actor availability. Rehearsals begin March 26th.

Audition requirements: Please prepare a contemporary monologue (two minutes maximum) and a song (32 bars up-tempo or 16 bars for a ballad.). Please bring sheet music to the audition. Actors invited to callbacks will be given readings and songs from the script. There will also be a dance audition at the callbacks.

Character Breakdown

Character Breakdown (For this production, LASC is interested in seeing actors of all ethnicities and backgrounds for all roles. We are also interested in seeing actors with strong dance backgrounds.)

Pippin: The protagonist. A young man searching for meaning and significance. Vocal Range: G2-G#4

The Leading Player: The mysterious and smooth-tongued leader of the troupe that brings the story of Pippin to life. Vocal Range: C#3-A#4.

Charlemagne (King Charles): Pippin’s father. A boisterous, tyrannical warlord that has trouble connecting with his son. Vocal Range: G2-E4.

Fastrada: Pippin’s stepmother. Sexy, smart, and twisted. Vocal Range: C4-F5

Berthe: Pippin’s grandmother, who lives in the country to avoid her daughter-in-law. Vocal Range: E3-E4

Catherine: A young widow and mother who discovers Pippin at his lowest point and becomes drawn to him, both as her character and as a member of the Leading Player’s troupe. Vocal Range: F#3-C#5

Lewis: Fastrada’s son and Pippin’s step-brother. Dim, brutish, and war-like.

Theo: Catherine’s son, who warms to Pippin when Pippin consoles him over the death of his pet. Vocal Range: E4-G5.

The Ensemble: The players that create Pippin’s world and journey under the direction of the Leading Player. Must be versatile actors, dancers, and singers.
