Casting Notice – A Christmas Carol

Los Altos Stage Company is holding open auditions for A Christmas Carol by Michael Wilson, adapted from the original novel by Charles Dickens

A Christmas Carol follows the transformative tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, a curmudgeonly miser whose life takes a magical turn when he is visited by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, along with the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. This spirited adaptation brings the phantasmagoric elements of Charles Dickens’ classic to life, featuring a mesmerizing, swirling, dancing chorus of ghosts that will captivate your imagination and stir your heart.

Rehearsals: Sundays 6 PM – 10 PM and Mondays through Thursdays 7 PM – 10 PM. First rehearsal is Sunday October 19, 2025. Tech week rehearsals are 6 PM – 11 PM, Monday November 24th – Wednesday November 26th, 2025. There will be no rehearsal on Thanksgiving.
Performance dates: Wednesdays through Sundays, from November 28th through December 28th, 2025. Wednesday-Saturday performances start at 8 PM. Sundays start at 3 PM. Saturday December 13th and 20th will have both a 3 PM and 8 PM show.
Audition requirements: Please prepare one contemporary dramatic monologue (1-2 minutes in length). No accent required.
It is preferable that you audition in person, but if you are unable to do so, video submissions will be considered. Please fill out the audition form linked above and send your video to rebecca.lasc@gmail.com by 6 PM on Wednesday April 16, 2025.

Actor Acknowledgement: A $15 meal reimbursement will be provided for rehearsal and performance days to which the actor is called up to a total amount of $500.

Roles: All roles are currently open. *This production of A Christmas Carol will be performed by 12-13 actors, with most playing multiple roles. We are looking for a diverse company of versatile actors who are comfortable with movement. Some of the primary roles are listed below. Please note that you may be cast as more than one character from the following list, or additional smaller roles*
Ebenezer Scrooge: Miserly, greedy owner of a London counting-house. Is visited by three spirits and the ghost of Jacob Marley throughout the show in an attempt to change his ways.
Ghost of Christmas Past: A spirit that appears young and lively. Represents all of the Christmases from Scrooge’s past. Visits Scrooge to show Scrooge moments from his past.
Ghost of Christmas Present: A loud, jovial spirit that shows Scrooge the various celebrations of Christmas in the present day, including that of the Cratchit family.
Ghost of Christmas Future (Yet-to-Come): An unspeaking, foreboding spirit that demonstrates to Scrooge what may happen to him should he not change his ways.
Jacob Marley (ghost): Scrooge’s late accounting partner who died years ago on Christmas Eve. He was equally greedy as Scrooge, and appears to Scrooge as a ghost to warn him.
Bob Cratchit: Scrooge’s underpaid clerk. Cares deeply for his large family although they live in poverty.
Mrs. Cratchit: Bob Cratchit’s hard-working and loving wife.
Fred: Scrooge’s friendly, kind nephew and only family member. The son of Scrooge’s sister Fan, who died soon after Fred’s birth. He and Scrooge are not close.
Belle: A beautiful, young woman Scrooge fell in love with as a young man. Their differing views on wealth eventually push the two apart.
Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig: Mr. Fezziwig was Scrooge’s first employer. Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig are good people who treat their workers well. They threw a large Christmas party each year.
*We are also casting 2 young children to play the variety of young characters in this production. Children should be no younger than 8 and no taller than 4ft 8in.*
Tiny Tim: The youngest Cratchit child. Tiny Tim is sickly, and walks with a crutch.
Peter, Martha, and Belinda: The elder Cratchit children
Boy Scrooge: Ebenezer Scrooge as a child, appearing during Christmas Past’s visit. A lonely child.
Fan: Scrooge’s kind, beloved sister, appearing during Christmas Past’s visit.
Ignorance and Want: Two children who represent the worst of humanity. Introduced to Scrooge by the Ghost of Christmas Present
