Audition – Cabaret

Los Altos Stage Company is holding open auditions for Cabaret (1998 Version). Book by Joe Masteroff; Music by John Kander; Lyrics by Fred Ebb

Audition Date: Wednesday April 16, 2025 from 6 PM – 10 PM

Rehearsals: Sundays 6 PM – 10 PM and Mondays through Thursdays 7 PM – 10 PM. Tech week rehearsals are 6 PM – 11 PM. First rehearsal is Sunday July 20, 2025.

Performance dates: Wednesdays through Sundays, from September 4 through 28, 2025. Wednesday-Saturday performances start at 8 PM. Sundays start at 3 PM. 

Audition requirements: Please prepare one vocal selection, 1-2 minutes in length, preferably in a style similar to the music of the show. Sheet music is preferred, as an accompanist will be provided. However, if you need to use a track, please bring the track on a phone or laptop. A speaker will be provided. No monologue or dance call at initial auditions. 

It is preferable that you audition in person, but if you are unable to do so, video submissions will be considered.  Please fill out the audition form linked above and send your video to rebecca.lasc@gmail.com by 6 PM on Wednesday April 16, 2025. 

Callbacks must be in person. 

Actor Acknowledgement: A $15 meal reimbursement will be provided for rehearsal and performance days to which the actor is called up to a total amount of $500.

Emcee (Age: 25-50; Vocals: C3-C#5; Accent: German) Exuberant, over-the-top Master of Ceremonies at the Kit Kat Club. Frequently portrayed in a gender-nonconforming manner. Suggestive dancing, audience interaction

Sally Bowles (Age: 20-40; Vocals: A3-C5; Accent: British) British cabaret singer at the Kit Kat Club. Frequently unlucky in love, and in many ways down on her luck, but eccentric, exuberant, and passionate all the same. Suggestive dancing/singing, intimacy

Clifford Bradshaw (Age: 25-40; Vocals: A2-E4; Accent: American) American novelist and English teacher visiting Berlin. Throughout the show he explores the complexities of his sexuality, politics, and artistic goals. Light dance, intimacy 

Fraulein Schneider (Age: 40s-70s; Vocals: Ab4-D3; Accent: German) German landlady who rents rooms to Cliff, Sally, and others. Falls in love with Herr Shultz, but ends the engagement as the Nazis rise to power. Light dance, intimacy

Herr Shultz (Age: 40s-70s; Vocals: Low G-High F Accent: German) Jewish fruit shop owner who falls in love with Frau Schneider. Naive about the political turmoil in Germany. Light dance, intimacy

Fraulein Kost & Kit Kat Girl (Age: 30s-40s; Vocals: Ab-High F; Accent: German) Prostitute who rents a room in Frau Schneider’s boarding house. Larger-than-life personality. Sings in German. Kit Kat Girl requires strong dancing ability and comfortability interacting with the audience. 

Ernst Ludwig (Age: 20-40; Vocals: Ab-High F; Accent: German) Friendly and likable German who takes English lessons from Cliff. He smuggles funds for the Nazi party. Light dance (Waltz), sings in German

Kit Kat Girls and Boys (Age: 18+) Eclectic mix of cabaret dancers that inhabit the Kit Kat Club. Strong dancers, comfortable with suggestive movements and interacting with the audience. All gender identities and body types are welcome. Sings in German. One doubles as Fraulein Kost, one as Gorilla, and one as Chanteuse.
