Props Designer – A Christmas Story

Los Altos Stage Company seeks a Properties Designer for our upcoming production of A Christmas Story – The Musical, running November 29 – December 22, 2024. The Properties Designer is responsible for the design and procurement of all handheld props for the production, as well as set dressing and furniture pieces as necessary in collaboration with the Scenic Designer.

Responsibilities:

• Design and procure all necessary hand props for the production; this may include purchasing, borrowing, renting, or building/fabricating props
• Assist in the set dressing and procurement of furniture in collaboration with the Scenic Designer
• Provide maintenance of props throughout the run of the production as necessary
• Respond to all reports and communications in a timely manner
• Attend production meetings and technical rehearsals
• Provide props for promotional photoshoot per the needs/requests of the director
• Return all borrowed/rented props to owners promptly at the end of the run
• Maintain receipts of all purchases and rentals for reimbursement

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

• Experience designing, building, and procuring props for theatrical productions at the college, professional, or community level
• Ability to independently manage the build/procurement process for desired props, with assistance/guidance from LASC staff as requested by designer
• Ability to manage one’s time independently, as much of the work for this project will be done off-site on your own time

Compensation:

$800 fee for an expected maximum of 45 hours ($17.75/hr)

Dates of Contract:

Start date ASAP through closing/strike on December 22nd, 2024. Technical rehearsals start Sunday November 24th, 2024, with Preview on Friday November 29th. There is no rehearsal/performance on Thanksgiving.
