ROE Auditions

Los Altos Stage Company is holding open auditions for Roe written by Lisa Loomer.

Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 case that legalized abortion, is still fiercely debated over forty years later. In this incisive play, acclaimed writer Lisa Loomer cuts through the headlines and rhetoric to reveal the divergent personal journeys of lawyer Sarah Weddington and plaintiff Norma McCorvey (“Jane Roe”) in the years following the fateful decision. In turns shocking, humorous, and poignant, ROE reflects the polarization in America today while illuminating the heart and passion each side has for its cause.

Performance dates: Wednesday through Sunday, January 28 – February 20, 2022. Wednesday-Saturday performances start at 8pm. Sundays start at 3pm.

Audition date: Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 10am-1pm. 

Where: Los Altos Stage Company Theatre (97 Hillview Ave, Los Altos)

Callbacks: Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 10-1pm.

Rehearsals: Weekly, Sunday through Thursday, from 6pm-9pm (Sundays) and 7pm-10pm (Monday-Thursday). Rehearsals begin Sunday, December 12, 2020. Time will be taken off for the holidays.

Actor Acknowledgement: All roles are volunteer and non-AEA. A $15 meal reimbursement will be provided for each rehearsal and performance day to which the actor is called and attends as an acknowledgement for your time and talent. For this show, the anticipated number of rehearsals and performances is 43.

Audition requirements: Please prepare one 2-minute contemporary monologue.

Roles: We highly encourage people of all ethnicities, races, and gender identities to audition. We will be casting 12 actors to play all of the parts for this production (8 women, 3 men, and 1 child). The roles of Norma McCorvey, Sarah Weddington, and Roxanne don’t double. All other actors will be playing multiple roles in the play.
